My Thoughts on Weapon Defenses

Defending weapons is a huge part of Krav Maga. I've always said Krav Maga is like Mixed Martial Arts with no rules and weapons. As fun as it is to train defending weapons, it should not be taken lightly. Here are some of my thoughts on the subject.

1. If compliance prevents you from having to attempt a weapon defense and keeps myself and others safe, I will comply. My property is replaceable. I am not.

2. If possible I will use tactics to either put myself in a better position to defend or access my own firearm.

3. This particular position is terrible and I would never willingly put myself there willingly like in the training video. I will stand and fight.

4. I understand a lot can go wrong and success is not gaurenteed. Given no other option, I will stand and fight.

5. When no other option is available, I will commit 100% to making the defense regardless of the outcome. I will stand and fight.

It's easy to glamourize weapon defenses but the reality is making an attempt when not needed could get you killed. The only time you should attempt it is if there is no other option and death is imminent.
